The bond we have with our canine companions are unlike any other friendships or relationships we have. Some of us love our dogs like children, and it's no wonder. There is an unconditional friendship and love there that makes everything better, and knowing what's going on inside those precious, perfect little heads can only make us understand them better. So, why do some dogs tilt their heads when we talk to them? This is a question that I have often wondered about. I'm no expert in canine psychology, however, I have had dogs all of my fifty-five years of existence! Let's dive in a bit and see what I have discovered. First of all, some dogs facial shape may have something to do with distracting their vision of you. This could easily account for tilting the head to get a better view of your face. Second, could this be a way for a dog to concentrate better on reading your facial expressions, causing you to think that they are listening? Last but not least, some dogs raise a particular ear when you talk as well as tilt their head. Maybe focusing on hearing and viewing you is the ultimate reason that some dogs tilt their heads when you talk to them.
